NEWS FROM VICKI FRASER
Creator of the California Rug Project

After eleven years the california rug is at present 2/3 complete. All interested are encouraged to visit 484 Main Street, Mendocino, Ca 95460 to see the rug in it's final stage on the loom. The spinning is progressing exponentially. Thanks to Karolyn Burkhart-Schultz' gift of 4 lincoln cross fleeces from Sandy McCabe, there is plenty of beautiful wool to spin. currently, there are 18 skeins in the 28 day mordant with six skeins waiting for the indigo vat.The last 18 skeins went into indigo and weld to make green for the "Central Valley".

A new dye garden is happening in the back yard and with the help of Mikal hoffman, we will expand the weld and madder crop. Mikal has donated much of his weld crop to the rug. Also generous weld donation from Elizabeth Hauber. Mikal gave me two indigo (tinctorum) plants that have reached 6+ feet. He has made several small indigo bricks from the Japanese indigo (polygonum tinctorum). Arlene Taeger, Laine Escola and Crissy Sullivan continue to assist laying knots. Come visit.
