In this workshop students learn the basics of felt and will be using the wet felting method working with colorful wool roving to produce felted beads – and then, on the second day, will learn how to embellish their beads with embroidery, and use them in necklaces and bracelets. The workshop will also discuss dyeing felt beads, and making beads by cutting and sewing hand-made felt.

The wool roving, written handbook, and all tools will be provided through a materials fee of $6

There will be some vintage beads provided as well, but participants are encouraged to bring their stash of miscellaneous beads to string with their felted beads.

BIO:

Mickie McCormic:  A former fiber artist in residence at the Mendocino Art Center, Mickie specialized in image transfer and quilting before taking up felting. Her dolls feature hand-made felt and recycled fabrics, and she developed her own techniques for felting beads and dyeing them for jewelry. She combines her felted beads with ones that she makes of polymer clay, glass, and paper, as well as vintage and beads made by other artists. Living in Fort Bragg now, with a studio overlooking the Noyo River, Mickie is on the Pacific Textile Arts board and shows her work primarily in the PTArts gallery.
