An ideal course for those wishing to learn more about rug hooking.

With a simple kit purchased from the instructor for $49  students will have all they need to construct a small bag and sample this forgivable fiber art.

The Kit includes a pattern on a linen backing, wool strips to hook the project, a basic hook in a wood handle, plus a craft frame or hoop.

We’ll go over the materials, tools, and designs, resources and connections, plus Laura will have plenty of extra Rug Hooking Magazines that students can have.

Students should bring  their own small sharp scissors.

Laura would like to communicate with students before class.

Laura Webber Pierce: Rug Artist, Mentor & Teacher
I live in Petaluma, California in Sonoma County, 40 miles north of San Francisco. My upstairs studio is part of a little Craftsman house on the west side of town. I t overlooks Wickersham Park and is only a few blocks from downtown.

My Rug Portrait of our daughter, ‘Emmy’, made it into Celebrations XVIII!   It’s always an honour to have a rug selected for this publication.  ‘Emmy’ showed at Sauder Village Rug Show in August 2008;   then graced the cover of the June/July/August 2009 issue of Rug Hooking Magazine having won the Viewers Choice!   Thank-you!

I enjoy teaching and sharing the Art of Rug Hooking.  I like teaching at Guilds & Rug camps around the country: check out my Calendar page for events and schedules.    My patterns, hand-dyed wool, basic supplies & services are available at my Studio; call or email for an appointment.   One of my specialties is making a portrait or landscape pattern from your photograph and/or ideas.  Let me make one for you!   Email me for an estimate, Lwpierce@comcast.net.

As your grateful hostess, I direct the  Little River Inn Rug Camp, a rug hookers’ holiday on the Mendocino Coast!    Tanya Graham & Nancy Terhaar are our teachers for Oct 28 – Nov 2, 2018.  We also offer a few mini-classes, a short slide show about Rugs, Art or Rug Artists and have our rug show up on the walls all week!

My mother, Emma Webber, was my mentor and biggest supporter in Rug Hooking. We loved going to the Art Museums and Art Shows; garnering inspiration from other creative souls. Emma hooked one of kind rugs with recycled wool, cut by hand and hooked without a frame. She created several series of rugs and seeing the evolution can be inspirational! We created a couple of picture books of Emma’s hooked rugs; the smaller one, “Evolving Design”, is available. I’m offering some of Emma’s designs in my Pattern Catalog; see my Supplies page.

I’m finishing up the Caswell Impressions project; I sketched all 78 sections of the Caswell Carpet and created paper patterns to share with other rug hooking artists in my travels. The Caswell Impression rugs all arrived and they were beautiful! The first (partial) showing was at Little River Inn Rug Camp 2016!  This April, 27 Caswell Impression rugs showed at Friends by the Sea Rug camp.  In July 2017, the entire collection of Caswell Impressions showed at Hooker Hill Rug Retreat! Check out their website for lots of photos, including the Caswell rugs all put in order!   The final show was in August, at Sauder Village Rug Event;   Kathy Wright gave the Caswell Impressions a splendid show-case in her grand Rug Show!   Now the rugs are on their way home.

I put together a book of the Caswell Impressions Rugs; just 1 rug per page and 2 pages per viewing, put together so the rugs complimented each other. This small hard bound book is available for $45 plus $3 shipping within the USA.      Check my blog (lower right button) to see more about this fun project.
