An ideal course for those wishing to try out rug weaving for the first time, though with enough ‘tricks’ to also suit the more experienced weaver.  Students will learn how to make strong serviceable rugs.

The course will include straight twill, broken twill and twill on opposites.
Within the above three structures many two and three colour sequences will be explored, each giving their own unique design.

Crossed wefts (parallel and contrary motion) and clasped wefts will be applied to 2 /2 twill, further increasing the design possibilities.
Pick – up and 3 / 1 double faced twill might also be looked at.

This class might also include some work with Shaft Switching, students learning how to adapt their own looms.

The above will include instruction on how to set up ones loom correctly for rug weaving. Twining at the beginning and end of the rug, darning in of the loose ends, use of the temple and many other invaluable tips for successful rug weaving.

Each class concludes with a look at rug finishes, a few of the many finishes will be demonstrated.

Internationally known rug weaver Jason Collingwood returns to Pacific Textile Arts by popular demand. With over 25 years experience as a professional rug weaver, Jason has produced thousands of rugs for corporate and individual clients the world over.
