Rescheduled due to power outage ….Nov 4/5 M/T: Crocheting the Coast
Introductory lesson in crocheting flora and fauna with Trisha Lavoie November 4/5th
Introductory talk Monday, Nov 4th, 7pm at PTA classroom All welcome at no charge. Donations gratefully accepted.
Talk: Artist Trisha Lavoie will discuss her fiber art practice of recreating natural objects using crochet. In particular this talk will focus on her work recreating local flora and fauna as was shown last year at the Larry Spring Museum with examples from the exhibit.
3 hour Tuesday afternoon Workshop: Tuesday November 5th, 2019 (1:30 to 4:30pm) Tuition: $60 (includes materials) To enroll send $50 non-refundable deposit with contact information and class request to: Pacific Textile Arts 450 Alger St. Fort Bragg, CA 95437
Or use our online registration form and optionally pay deposit with paypal donate button (remember to add your name and class registration info in the optional information field).

An introduction to the basic stitches and techniques of crochet will be given with instructions on how these basic techniques can be used to recreate objects from the coast such as kelp and seashells. Participants should be able to finish a small work during this workshop which can contribute to an ongoing project to cover the Pacific Textile Arts’ fence. No prior experience with crochet is necessary. Participants are also encouraged to bring examples of their favourite “sea debris” that may be found along the coast.
—————————————————– * ————————————————— Trisha Lavoie is a Canadian fiber artist focused on using crochet soft sculpture to create art installations. Her work plays with non-traditional uses of crafts, issues of conspicuous consumption, comfort and environmental concerns. Fort Bragg’s current climate concerns with the diminishing kelp forests are of particular interest to her. Her work has been shown in Hamilton, Toronto and St Catherines in Southern Ontario, Vancouver, BC, and at the Larry Spring Museum Of Common Sense Physics in Fort Bragg.
