Class Policies
Class Description: Weave with sumptuous fine wool yarns and learn tapestry techniques including hatchings, hachures, slits, and patterns for combining colors, and experiment with eccentric or non-horizontal weaving. Begin with warping a small loom and choosing or creating a design for your paper cartoon to use as a guide during weaving.
Materials List: Supplied by the teacher: weaving equipment and materials you will need, including a small vertical loom that sits on a table, an awl, a pointed bobbin for pressing the yarns in place, Aubusson wooden bobbins, a wooden beater, cotton warp, and fine wool yarns, with lots of colors!
Optional things to bring:
• A small basket, tray, or bag for your materials
• A small pair of scissors
• A notebook and/or camera
• Art materials (if you want to design in class; I will also bring some) • Reading glasses if you need them
A cushion to sit on (on a chair)
BIO: TRICIA GOLDBERG has taught tapestry weaving for over 35 years. She teaches at her studio in Berkeley, CA, and loves to travel to teach workshops. She weaves commissioned tapestries as well as her own work which has been widely exhibited. Tricia’s work appears in various collections and in publications, including Fiberarts Design Book 3, 4, and 7 and The Tapestry Handbook by Carol Russell. Tricia is a founding member of Tapestry Weavers West, a west coast organization formed in 1985.
