Class Description: This class will direct you through the steps of producing unique sheets of handmade paper from such materials as: mulberry bark, Nasturtium vines, tree fungus, and recycled waste paper and beginning with fiber preparation, to vat prep, to forming and decorating sheets. then trying sheets suitable for a variety of creative uses.
Materials List:
Teacher will provide all necessary tools and materials, but it would be helpful if students could bring the following:
Kitchen blender
Paper mold and deckle
A white plastic 2.5 gal bucket
Smaller plastic containers pint and quart sizes
Scissors
Small bits of yarn, ribbon, string, dried flower petals, leaves
BIO:
I have been living on the Mendocino coast for 40 years. For 30 years, I was teaching at the College of the Redwoods. Paper making was a frequently taught class. I have studied paper making in Berkeley, CA, Japan, and Europe. I continue to produce paper at my home studio using techniques that will be taught in this workshop. I have shown artwork created with handmade paper and won national awards. I continue to produce paper for prints, sculpture, cast forms, and figure drawing.
