Materials fee: $20
List of items students need to bring: X-acto or utility knife, scissors, metal ruler, cutting surface, bone folder, piercer.  Optional supplies: personal images either printed or art, favorite decorative papers.

Class Description:
Create a sampler book of six different book structures that incorporate a concertina binding and various ways pages can be added by gluing, folding and sewing. Structures such as flag, Australian, and pamphlet stitch plus others will be taught using your instructor’s papers and materials.

Day 2 you will choose two favorites of the sample structures and make complete books using your favorite papers, photos or artwork. A simple box will be taught to hold your three books. Instructions for printing pages you might incorporate will be sent ahead.

BIO

Mary-Ellen Campbell is a multidisciplinary artist who does graphics, painting, sculpture, printmaking, book arts, and mixed media work. She has had 17 national/international solo exhibitions and participated in over 85 group and invitational shows. Professor of Art Emerita from New Jersey City University, NJ. where she taught for thirty-four years. In 2004-05 she was awarded the Fulbright Scholar Grant to teach Book Arts in Thailand. Her works are in many special collections across the country. Mary-Ellen won 13 residencies since 2007 in Finland, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Costa Rica, Kenya, Colorado, N. Carolina, California, and Minnesota creating more than 75 books and mixed media artworks.

Other workshops that Mary Ellen teaches include Books as Containers, Cyanotype and paper rusting, Single Stitch bindings, Simple sewn bindings, Intermediate sewn bindings, Folded Bindings, The Book as Package, Collectible Books and Boxes, Japanese Bindings and Box, Making Portfolios, and more.
