Class Description:
DAY 1: IKAT WARP: E.P .I DETERMINED BY YARN YOU BRING.  3 separate warps 1” by 3 yards these will be wrapped with Ikat tape or. your plastic strips then immersion dyed

DAY 2:  Warp 6” wide by 3 yards long. This warp will be painted. TOTAL Warps are 9” wide by 3 yards long. After the dyeing workshops you can put the 2 warps together and weave them.


List of items students need to bring:
1. 5/2, 10/2 or 8/2 cotton or tencel for warps
2. Ikat tape or 2” x approx 20” cut plastic strips for wrapping the warp
3 .Dust mask
4. rubber gloves apron
5. sponge brushes for painting (one for each color)
6. small plastic containers to mix dyes (8oz. yogurt containers are. good with lids one for each color ,
7. 2 large quart containers
8. plastic spoons for mixing dyes
9. paper towels
10.Large sheets of plastic to cover table, lay warp on, and one to cover the painted warp to batch and take home
11. masking tape

12. set of measuring spoons (ones you will not use food for)

BIO

Janice Sullivan graduated with a BA in Textiles from Boston University, 1979. She received a Masters in Art Education in 1982 from Massachusetts College or Art. Teaching at City College of San Francisco from 1995-2019 in the Fashion Department, her subjects included ,weaving, dyeing, and tapestry. Other teaching opportunities included an adjunct assignment at San Francisco State University in the Art Department (2003-2005), as well as weaving and surface design at College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, 2006-2012. Her work has been exhibited both locally and nationally. It is represented in many corporate and private collections across the country including several Kaiser-Permanente Medical Centers, Moody’s Investment Services, Quantum Corporation, Summit Medical Center & Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital to name a few. In her forty year study of loom manipulated, multi-tensioned double weave, she pioneered a new approach to sculptural textiles. Her work also incorporates painting, printing, stitching and dyeing techniques. After living in San Francisco for 23 years, Janice Sullivan moved to Fort Bragg in 2005 where she maintains a weaving and dyeing studio and continues to teach workshops at Pacific Textile Arts. She was a member of Northcoast Artists Gallery in Fort Bragg, CA. She is currently represented by Highlight Gallery in Mendocino CA. Her work can be viewed on Instagram as Janice Sullivan Textiles
